Exhibited at Visa pour l’Image in 2021 and 2024, Jérôme Gence’s work examines the quiet transformations brought by digital technologies into everyday life. From the rise of remote work to childhood shaped by screens, his projects reveal how our gestures, relationships and sense of presence are being redefined by the connected world.
I learned to make stories in the old school way by dedicating time and more time on the subject. The problem with social media is that you are only dedicated to yourself, and when you spend more time, you want to have more and more likes.

Photojournalist Jérôme Gence has turned his lens on "The Screen Generation", documenting the daily lives of young people immersed in a digital culture that englobes both the virtual and real worlds, often at the same time. As his exhibition goes on show at the 36th Visa Pour L'Image photojournalism festival, Jérôme tells us about what he discovered while making the series, including the psychological consequences of childhoods illuminated by the glow of tablets and smartphones. We also discuss the pros and cons of artificial intelligence in the art world and Jérôme explains why an extraordinary experience in the Himalayas put him on the path of photography.

Jérôme Gence Lauréat Grande commande Photojournalisme | BNF
Dans le cadre du plan gouvernemental de soutien à la filière presse, le ministère de la Culture a confié à la Bibliothèque nationale de France la mise en œuvre d’une grande commande photographique, Radioscopie de la France : regards sur un pays traversé par la crise sanitaire, destinée aux photojournalistes. Deux appels à projets, l’un lancé en 2021, l’autre en 2022, permettront de sélectionner 200 lauréats sur leur parcours et leur proposition. Ce projet vient reconnaître et encourager la création contemporaine dans le champ du photojournalisme et de la photographie de presse.
